Match Report: NL Swim League – A Team

[Thanks to our reporter Jayne Elliott]

The Senior A team swim in Division 1 of the North Lancashire Swimming League.

Their last match of the season was also in Blackpool and saw the return to the team of Kyle Mckenna who has suffered from a shoulder injury in the past 6 months. Kyle swam well competing in the open relays and the individual 50 metre breaststroke.

12 year old Beth Adam swam the 50 metre individual breaststroke winning in a new personal best time of 41.03 and Rhys Pownell continued to show how much he has improved this year with pbs in the 50 metre butterfly, 50 metre backstroke individual and as part of both the 12 and under and 14 and under medley relays, the 50 metre freestyle individual race, 50 metre freestyle relay and then again in the canon where he broke the 30 second marker swimming 50 metres freestyle in 29.92 seconds.

Further pbs were recorded by Emily Wade, Gordon Ballantyne, Amelie Elliott, Charlotte Middleton, Kate Roberts, Matthew Johnson and Tom Jepson.

The match also saw two of our 18-year-old swimmers (Poppy and James) compete for the last time before heading off to university. Both have swum for the club for over 10 years – starting off in small pool. Poppy has represented the club in the Micro B team, Senior A and B teams and at county and regional level whilst James has swum in the Micro A and Senior A teams and at county and regional level and qualified and swam at English Nationals.  James was delighted to finish the match on a high – winning the 50 metre open butterfly in great style.

With some good, consistent swims and plenty of team spirit the team finished in second place behind a very strong Preston A team.

After the three matches it was confirmed that the league had been won by Preston A with Leyland in second place. Full details of the points awarded in each of the three matches is detailed below:
