Great Ocean Road Challenge – Week 3

Well the week started with Team Fitchie, Lackie and Stott posting their updated team photo in an attempt to illustrate the progress they were making. Gill won’t recognise them when they get back – well not from this photo anyway!
We’ve now got several teams who have completed the distance and are now on the return trip. Let’s see how many can make it back before 14 February.
Here’s what the progress looks like. The trailblazers are Team Pedley & McKenna and Team Linley who have both completed the return leg and are on their way for a third. Close behind are Team Roberts, Lackie & Hepplestone who are now no doubt on the start of their third leg and chasing hard. Team Townshend, Wilson & Myers are also likely to be starting their third leg this week.

As for the rest of the teams the position looks as follows. Gary Dutton pipped Judith this week to take their team just 61kms short of the finish so this week should see them complete. I still haven’t got my bike out but by the end of today we are likely to complete the leg. Cliff and Sue Taylor had intended to take part with the rest of the family but other commitments have got in the way leaving Cliff and Sue flying solo but what a job they are doing between them – just 190kms to go to the finish which should be manageable in the next couple of weeks. Fantastic!

On the individual front Maiya Taylor has improved over the three weeks and totted up a fantastic 35kms this week with walking and running. Mum Jenny has also up her weekly total to 50kms. Paul Ascroft once again topped the turbo kms with 201kms. Mia and Neve managed turns on the turbo when Paul wasn’t looking with Mia completing an amazing 126kms – great job! (Though Neve nearly got the credit due to Paul entering the data in the wrong order and stealing your glory Mia!) The Brady Bunch are steadily chipping away at the kms and making good progress. Team Johnson has really set to this week with the whole family upping the effort. Matthew totalled over 83kms; Hannah 31kms; Kev 80kms and Jane led the way with almost 84kms – fantastic team effort! With their average weekly distances Team Lawton-Jimenez and Team Tindall are on target to complete the distance by 14 February – keep going guys! Team Robinson have also upped their game this week with a family total of 365kms but poor Freya must be worn out with a fantastic 77.8 kms. Unfortunately that still doesn’t pinch the Top Dog from Bailey Blundell who this week completed over 91kms – are you sure he’s not on castors Rachel? If Jon Ward manages to get some time away from the computer Team Ward also have the potential to make the finish by 14 February.

Some fantastic efforts by everyone so let’s keep going. Let’s see which of our trailblazer teams make the end of the third leg first; how many of the other teams can complete a second leg and how many of the rest of us can complete the 663kms. Keep the photos coming too so we can add to the album and keep Gill in the picture.
