Great Ocean Road Challenge – Week 2
Well what a week that was! Whose idea was it to do a challenge in Winter! When I woke up on Tuesday I contemplated getting out the inflatable and clocking up some rowing kms on the River Douglas but knowing my luck I would probably have ended up in the Ribble Estuary the water was pushing through so fast. Then waking up to see the snow a couple of days later I wondered whether ski-ing might be the better option. Yet despite the conditions we have seen most of us increase our distances this week.
In the Under 18’s Eve Pedley made the biggest increase from Week 1 for the girls clocking up an extra 81kms to make the best weekly total [132kms]. Ethan Roberts completed the most distance for the boys with 88km but Toby Townshend made a notable improvement on his distance with a total of 62.4kms for the week. The best combined totals for Weeks 1 & 2 are Mia Ascroft [199kms], just pipping out Eve Pedley by 15km, and Ethan Roberts [267kms] just pinching top spot from brother Tom by 25km. It was that extra 25km he stuck in on the bike that did it Tom!
In the Over 18’s we saw Loretta Myers make the biggest increase from week 1 for the women and, surprisingly, my other half for the men – mind you when your starting point is low the only way is up, Bob! Only joking, of course, as he did walk further than me! Here’s a full run down –

Now I don’t know about the rest of you but the weather has impacted on our furry friends too. At the beginning of the week in all that pouring rain Doogan was more reluctant than us to get out there and we had wet garments all over the place. But when the snow came he was loving it and I was wishing we could have put the tracker on him as he ran around enjoying the white stuff. In terms of the ‘Top Dog’ Bailey Blundell is still the dog to beat with over 85kms again this week. [Though when I did the first step conversion he had done 851kms – I’ve put this down to an extra zero Rachel – either that or you really did put the tracker on Bailey!) Here’s the full list of our pooches achievements –

Team Pedley & McKenna clocked up the top team Kms this week with 619kms for the week and Cliff and Sue Taylor between them clocked up a great 207kms. In the Dutton household Judith led the way again, but Gary isn’t far behind! Mia and Neve Ascroft did some great work on the turbo clocking over 140kms between them. Yasmin Elliott clocked an amazing 80kms for the week with cycling, running and walking. The Linley’s have eased off on the turbo this week – I hope it’s not suffering from over use guys! Rachel Linley (she’s the over 18 one!) did give the tarmac some stick though, pipping Rachel Blundell by a mere .8km to sneak in with the most walking distance for the week. As for me I did say I would get the bike out this week. Well I did. I took a look to make sure it was okay, and it was so I decided to put it back – maybe this week will see it get beyond the end of the drive! I did make myself get out walking each day though, with two completely sodden walks at the beginning of the week and a bit of late night ice-skating at the week-end.
Overall as a Club we have totalled 9,905 kms in two weeks but the data only tells us so much, so if you’ve got some anecdotes that you want to share just let me know and I’ll add them into next week’s update. Keep the pictures coming too, our album is beginning to grow!
Before I forget thank you all for getting your data in on time – it really does help.
Elaine
