Locked down but not out!

Well we may all be in lockdown and we might not have access to a pool right now but it hasn’t stopped our activity altogether.

We have been working hard since lockdown began to make sure we can keep in contact with our swimming family.  Using technologies we have kept in contact and put together a daily programme of activities that seek to reach all ages of the club and parents alike.  There are exercise workouts, nutrition workshops, swim videos and lots of fun quizzes throughout the week.  Swimmers are working hard on their land work to help maintain their fitness whilst they are out of the water but also enjoying the various interactive activities to help them keep in contact with coaches and team mates.  It also provides a welcome break and energetic release from home schooling.  There is even an on-line family quiz at the week-end so that the adults don’t feel left out.  Feed back from parents has been extremely positive and they are appreciative of the efforts being made to keep everyone active and in contact.

The latest initiative sees the Masters’ swimmers and coaches embarking on a ‘virtual’ exercise challenge that will see three teams compete against each other to complete a ‘swimathon’ route that takes in 24 swim clubs across England, Scotland and Wales.  Each team logs their daily exercise and their combined totals take them along the 4,000Km route but to spice it up they only have 31 days to complete the challenge.  The first team back home wins!  It is great to see 30 Masters swimmers and coaches taking part together and is a great way for them to keep fit and have fun with our swimming family along the way.

If you are a keen swimmer and would like to be part of a great swim family then lockdown needn’t stop you.  You can still join and begin your induction during lockdown, then when the pool is open you will be ready to make the big splash with the rest of the team.  Follow this link to contact our Membership Secretary.
