Staffordshire Masters2022

Saturday, 23rd April and off down the motorway went Chris Hamer, Shelley Hall and Grant Thompson to take part in the 2022 Staffordshire Masters.  They were joined by club swimmer, Pam Lane, who was competing for the Transplant SC team.

There were some great swims.  Shelley back competing after having been a successful age group swimmer in her youth with Newton Hall SC; Grant back after injury; and Chris is mentally scarred by reaching  a milestone birthday in a couple of months and having to move up an age group.

Shelley came away with 3 Silver medals – 50 F/S, 100IM and 50 Fly in the 45-49 yrs and in each event swimming times that would have seen her taking medals in much younger age groups.  A fantastic return to competition!

Grant took Gold in the 30-34yrs 50m F/S in a time of 24.98 which was actually the fastest swim of the day across all the age groups.  Not a bad return from injury.

Chris took Bronze in the 50-54 years 50m Breaststroke in a time of 36.29 – another swim that would have seen him medalling in the much younger 35-39 age group.  See it’s not that bad Chris!.

Club mate Pam Lane also had a successful meet alongside her transplant team mates.  Pam lost more time in the water than most throughout lockdown so had to put in a lot of hard work on her return to gain some level of fitness.  She took a Gold in the 50m Back and Bronze in 50m Freestyle and two Golds with her transplant team mates in the mixed relays.  A welcome re-introduction to competition.
