Return to competition for one of our Triathletes

With the relaxing of COVID restrictions one of our resident triathletes, Ethan Roberts, was able to compete once again, this time at the St Anne’s Triathlon. Due to the limited number of events, competitors came from around the country including the North West and North East regions, so a strong field had signed up.

Additional safety measures meant the event would be run in somewhat of a different format with entrants being released for their swim start at ten second intervals. Ethan started last in the pool and by the time he had completed his swim had already made up several places to be mid field going into the first transition.

Once on his bike Ethan set a blistering pace, setting the fastest lap time. This helped him pass all but one of the competitors coming into the final transition. Onto the run, there was a strong head wind whilst running down the St Anne’s promenade. This wasn’t on Ethan’s mind though as he chased down the remaining competitor in front of him to take the overall lead. Ethan finished in a fantastic first position, with over a two-minute lead over the next competitor.

When asked how he felt after the win Ethan said, “It was good, I’m really pleased”.

Ethan has signed up for a couple more Triathlons in the next couple of weeks; including the Inter-Regional Championship selection event. Let’s hope Ethan gets selected for the team and represents the North West at the IRC finals in September.
