Michael braves the cold!

In a year when almost everything was cancelled, one event that did manage to go ahead was the Windermere triathlon. Usually run in May, but pushed back to 20th September this year it was based at YMCA Lakeside on the shore of Lake Windermere. There were several different distance events, all with the swim taking place in the clear waters of Lake Windermere. The sprint distance course was a 750m swim, 25k bike ride followed by a 5k run. Barracudas were represented by masters swimmer and coach Michael Stott. The water was a cool 16 degrees at the 7am start, so a wet suit was recommended. After a single lap out into the lake the cycle ride took a hilly route through the South Lakes with over 1,000 ft of climbing. The run took place on a difficult trail run through the forest in which the YMCA is located. All of which meant that despite the effort needed fast times were not possible.  Michael though finished in a creditable 1hour 48 minutes, coming in 38th overall and 3rd fastest in his age group. Great work Michael!
