Pam & Matt selected for World Transplant Games

Pam Lane and Matt Burrows have once again been selected to represented Team GB & Northern Ireland in the World Transplant Games taking place in Gateshead in August. Before they travel up to Gateshead though they are both competing at the British Transplant Games in Newport, Gwent between 25-28 July.

Pam has a busy programme with the 50m Back, Free and Breast, plus the 100m Free and the 4x50m Mixed Freestyle relay. At the World Transplant Games, she is competing in the 50m Back, Free and Breast, and the 100m Back and Free.

Pam said,
“My target is to try and get PBs at both Games. I know that my swimming has improved and I will certainly be trying my hardest but, with 60 countries represented, I know that the competition will be fierce! I surprised myself last year when I became the European 50m Backstroke champion in my age group, so it would be nice to feel a similar sense of achievement this year! A medal would be fantastic, but I just want to swim my best. I swim to raise awareness of the difference that organ donation makes and feel very, very lucky that I had a transplant. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to train, swim or compete, so feel very privileged to be swimming at both the British and World Transplant Games this summer.“

Matt also has a busy programme with the 50m Back, Breast and 50m & 100m F/S at the British Games. Having stole the show at the last World Games with six Transplant World Records and the accolade of ‘Most Outstanding Athlete’ he’s go a lot to live up to. He will be on everyone’s radar this time but will be swimming to win in all his events – the 50m Breast, Fly and F/S plus 100m Breast and F/S.

Matt said,

“My target is to get the World Record in the 50m Breaststroke as I missed it last time by one hundredth.”

We wish you both the very best of luck.
