Pia wins Bronze in Kazan

Pia was selected as one of the Great Britain team who competed recently at the LEN European Youth Championships in Kazan (Russia).

She was one of 30 swimmers from across the country selected to represent Great Britain in the championships which saw 50 countries taking part.  Pia reached two semi-finals – 50m Backstroke where she did a PB and 200m Backstroke where she finished 7th in the semi final.  In the100m Backstroke she finished 7th overall but her best swim was the Backstroke leg of the team’s 4 x 100m Individual Medley Relay where she got the team off to a great start coming home 3rd for her leg.  This was a position the team retained throughout, finishing in Bronze medal position behind Russia and Italy.  A great team performance to beat off stiff opposition and close rivals France.

Pia’s next events are the British Championships in Glasgow later this month and then August sees her fly off to Budapest with the Great Britain youth team to compete in the World Junior Championships (20-25 August).  Here she will be competing against the world’s best youth swimmers from the likes of USA, Russia, Australia and China.

I’m sure we all wish Pia well for these events and look forward to seeing her at Club when she gets back.
