Lancs County Champs 2019
Forty swimmers spent three long weekends at Manchester & Liverpool to compete in this year’s Lancashire County Championships. For some of the younger swimmers this was their first taste at County level and others were pushing themselves to get to the next levels.
17yr old Pia Murray was in fine form and she came away with 6 medals posting some very fast times early in the season. Murray gained 3 golds in the 50m & 100m butterfly and the 200m backstroke events, 2 silvers for the 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 200m Individual Medley event.
Max Delaney 14yrs put in some fine performances setting many personal best times and his hard work earned himself a fantastic silver medal in the 50m breaststroke event.
Both Hannah Morris 12yrs and 13yr old Jack Hepplestone picked up two bronze medals each. Morris finished in 3rd place in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events and Hepplestone gained his medals in his favoured races, the 50m & 100m freestyle. The final medals to come Leyland’s way were two further bronze medals won by 11yr old Joshua Keogh in the 200m freestyle event and Robert Littler 13yrs for the 200m butterfly.
Many of our swimmers came away from the competition with personal best times and also gained qualifying times to swim at regional level later in the season. Gill was very pleased with all her competing swimmers who displayed great dedication to the sport.
