CLUB CAPTAINS

Historically the Club annually appointed to the positions of Ladies’ and Mens’ Club Captains. This tradition was stopped in the 2000’s and replaced with Team Captains. The latter fulfil a different role and are more focussed around supporting specific teams for example we have Micro Team Captains and Arena Team Captains. This is still a tradition that we want to maintain, but we also want to reinstate the role of overall Club Captains.

These roles are open to swimming members over the age of 15 and the successful applicants will be the swimmer face of our Club. They will represent the swimmer voice and be responsible for helping to foster a positive team culture across the Club. They may, from time-to-time, be asked to present the swimmer view to the Club’s committee and will attend swim events and social events in a supporting capacity.

We are proud, therefore, to introduce our first Club Captains for some years:

I started swimming at Leyland Barracudas at 7 years of age in 2014. During this time I have competed at County, Regional and National level. Swimming has made me feel part of a team and I have made great friends throughout my time at the Club. Swimming has taught me that dedication and hard work pay off.

In 2023, I completed the Young Volunteer Award and fully enjoyed helping the younger swimmers learn the skills I have developed from my coaches at the Club. I am very proud to represent Leyland Barracudas as a Club Captain alongside Tom and I look forward to being able to help the younger swimmers gain confidence.

I joined Leyland Barracudas when I was 8, and over the years I have enjoyed being part of the Micro League, North Lancashire League and Arena League teams. I have also competed at County and Regional levels. During this time I have made lots of friends at swimming and last year I also completed the Young Volunteer programme.

Away from the pool, I run for Preston Harriers and have represented them at County level for cross country and at the English Schools’ finals. I also compete in biathles which combine running and swimming and last year I travelled to Madeira to compete in the European Championships. In a few weeks I am looking forward to competing in this event again in Turkey, along with three of my Barracuda team mates. Recently I have started to enjoy participating in triathlons and have joined the North West Development Squad.

I am excited to be Club Captain alongside Megan because I want to give back to the Club and pass on my experience to younger swimmers.
